Transport for NSW commits funding to Culgoora Road repairs

The New South Wales Government is committing repair funds for any damage to Culgoora Road as a result of recent increased heavy vehicle traffic.

The closure of the Kamilaroi Highway at Spring Creek Bridge to vehicles weighing over 15 tonnes on May 26 forced heavy vehicles travelling between Narrabri and Wee Waa to use Culgoora Road instead.

A pre-assessment of Culgoora Road was completed prior to the diversion coming into effect, with Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Sam Farraway, stating a post assessment will be carried out once the Spring Creek Bridge reopens.

“We will fund the restoration of Culgoora Road to its pre-detour condition to ensure there is no ongoing inconvenience for local road users,” he said.

Transport for NSW will work with Narrabri Shire Council to restore the road, including monitoring the impact of increased traffic and future repair plans.

“We have heard the concerns of local residents regarding the impact of increased traffic and appreciate their understanding as we continue work to repair the bridge,” said Farraway.

Works to repair the Spring Creek Bridge to increase the load limit is set to be completed by Monday 4 July.
