Ceduel was started by Phil and Joy Watkins and has been in operation for around 30 years. Based in Pakenham, the company operates five tri axle dry bulk tankers, a bogie dry bulk tanker and a rigid trailer to cart stock feed throughout Victoria for Ridley Barastoc.
The new Hamelex White B-double will be able to cart up to 36 tonne and will be used for longer runs, while the tankers are used for smaller multi drop loads.
“We are starting to cart more and more large loads, so we made the decision to go for a larger trailer, but because of access issues on some farms, we had to ensure that the trailer could still be driven into farms easily,” says Phil. “We were having trouble getting enough product onto our dry bulk tankers and were looking for an alternative for quite some time. The product we carry is fairly light so we were looking for a trailer that would enable us to carry a larger volume than is possible with the smaller tankers – that’s why the decision was made to purchase a tipper.
“We had looked at a few different tipper manufacturers and Hamelex White was able to provide us with a product that suited our needs. We looked at what we wanted to do with the combination and the Hamelex White product suited our needs. It’s also great to be able to purchase equipment from a local manufacturer.”
The Hamelex White aluminium B-double is complete with rotary seals to both the A and B trailers. It is fitted with BPW heavy-duty underslung suspension, BPW axles, Holland Hitch fifth wheel, onboard air pressure gauges, Holland Hitch landing legs, tarps by Tipper Tarps and Narva LED lighting throughout. The trailer has been finished off with sign writing designed by Ridley Barastoc and applied by Fleetmark. “This trailer is a perfect fit to our needs and it really looks quite good too. They’ve done a great job with it,” says Phil.
He adds, “There are about 30 farms we cart to in the Geelong region. Usually, each of the tankers cart two loads or so a day in Geelong, but this B-double combination will basically allow us to cart two 18 tonne loads in the one run, providing far better efficiency.”
The new B-double tipper combination is scheduled for delivery by mid September and will be put straight to work.
